SL2 Idle problem

Hello guys... I m new here.
Wanted to ask you about one of the problem that I am facing.
My SL2 1995 has the idle problem. The idle jumps around like crazy. Sometimes it reaches 3000rpm and then sometiems it drops to the point where it just dies.

These days I am driving it with my both legs and both arms... Here is the thing... If I am stopped at a stop light, and holding the breaks, the idle remains at 1000 rpm and then all of a sudden it dropped and car stopped. Sometimes it started at a first crank but sometimes needed more than one crank to start.

Now what I have started to do is to get it in neutral everytime I have to stop. Hold the break with my left foot and keep the rpm over 1500 to keep teh engine running as I dont want to be stranded in teh middle of the road.

The check Engine light is on... I checked the code and its code 26 that is for some kind of quad sensor. Also another code for knock sensor too.

What do I need to do.

Is it the EGR
do I need to change teh knock sensor (Where is it located?)
Is there anything else that needs to be fixed.
The engine has 65000 miles on it.

i will appreciate any help in this regard.

Re: SL2 Idle problem

top two things that go bad and mess up the idle on a S-series are the EGR and the ECTS. code 26 is common with a bad EGR, the ECTS is simple to replace and cheap, the early ones go bad easily, they redesigned them a few years back. go check over at saturnfans.com for details
