GS-T mod

Hey, I am new to this site & I am interested in buying a 97 gs-t eclipse. I am interested in this car because it has a turbo and I would like to mod it to run 1/4 in under 14 and 0-60 in low 5's. I have a pretty good knowledge of car technology but not good enough to mod this car by myself. I have some questions that I was wondering about.

-Does the turbo on the gs-t have potential or when people try to get this car in low 13's do they switch out to a more powerfull turbo?
-What would be the easiest way to get my car to run in the #'s specified above if I keep the same turbo?
-Also if I get a boost controller what would be the highest psi I can run with the stock turbo?

If you give my any mods could you please just put a price next to it so I know about how much it will cost. Thank You

Re: GS-T mod

95GSXracer ran 12.7 with 1800 in mods but that did include a 14b turbo (stock off a 1g)

He had..
"Exhaust (bushur 2.5" turbo back)
K&N filter (FIPK kit)
1g BOV on a cheap UICP
Profec B (could save some cash here with a MBC)
www.pocketlogger.com logger
Palm Pilot M100
100 dollar 14b with 120k miles, with RRE "hacker/tweaker" kit
AFC"

You should run 16 psi max on the stocker

Re: GS-T mod

You won't be able to run 13's on a stock 2nd gen turbo... unfortunately they are very small. You should be able to run low 14's on the T25, but a cheap turbo swap like a 14b isn't that difficult to do, and is a great upgrade. There are even bolt-on turbo upgrades for the 2nd gen cars to a wide range of power, 280whp to 450whp about. Good luck.

Re: GS-T mod

12.7? Wow thats fast for stock turbo. How much boost was he running and did he have any fuel upgrades like pump or injectors. Also how much difference does the AFC make in track times and HP? Thanks

Re: GS-T mod

14b isnt a stock 2nd gen turbo, so what I said still stands. You won't go that quick without an upgrade. AFC is for tuning, it doesn't add a certain amount of power. Depends how well you can tune, and your other mods.

1g - first generation eclipse/talon
2g - Second generation eclipse/talon
t25 - 2g's stock turbo (small)
14b - 1g's stock turbo (bigger)
AFC - Air/Fuel Controller (tune leaner or richer)

other stuff:

Re: GS-T mod

most DSMs even GS-Ts, can hit mid 13s high 12s with just a few mods. i THINK i mite be goin there, but im interested in making a DSM go sideways. my cuzin's 92' Tsi AWD just installed Evo 3 Turbo, catback to exhuast and he said it should hit mid 13s easily.

Aight, I'm starting to get a hand on things and I just want to clarify things a little more.

-So if I get a 97' GS-t and replace the T25 with a 14B, mod the rest of the car a little, like air filter, exhaust, BOV, should my car be hitting low 14's?

-What PSI does the 14B run at? and if I get a EBC what would be the max I could set it at for the 14B?

-Also, after I perform these mods on my car the gas mileage won't be that bad will it?
Thanks for help so far

Re: GS-T mod

Your gas mileage all depends on how you drive the car. If you can stay off the gas (it's tough to do when driving a dsm ), then you could see maybe 20-25 mpg. Like I said, it's really all up to how you drive!

Re: GS-T mod

Hell yeah, 95 GSXracer ran 12.7 on a 14b for under $2000 bucks, so low 14's on pump is definately possible. Max boost is really only determined by knock (and fuel cut). Raise the boost until you hit fuel cut, and it would be nice to see knock count, but the 2g datalogger doesn't make this possible. Not sure what to say there. It will probably be 18psi if I had to guess.
