2000 4.6L Headers

I am going to buy some shorties for my 4.6L and was looking at BBK. Are they good? Is ceramic $399 worth the extra coin vs. the chrome $289? How much of a pain are they to install? Do they hook up to the stock H pipe? I'll swap the H pipe out later...

BBK are the best bang-for-the-buck headers IMO. Hell yeah the ceramic coating is worth it unless you want them to look corroded and rusty after a year. Not sure about installing them on newer stangs, but it shouldnt be too hard. Yes they'll bolt up to stock everything. Are you looking at equals or unequals as far as install goes?

actually i much perfer chrome to ceramic. ceramic most likely is "better" for your headers, but nothin like chrome. i like how it changes colours after awhile (goldish blueish kind of thing)

Umm, I think your thinking of Stainless Steel.

Re: 2000 4.6L Headers

Chrome will change colors under heat. I know when I was TIG welding we had to preheat chrome and stainless in an oven to bring them closer to temp. All metal will give blue/gold discoloration if the heat is right.

If you're going for performance, its best to get LT headers. They'll give you the best numbers overall.

On a 4.6 motor where room is very sparse anything but LT headers is definitely a waste of money other than look which you will never see. The stock 4.6 headers are so tight agianst the fenderwells until you get LT no real improvement can be made.

When you say LT does that mean full length (long tube)? My understanding is that the give up on performance using shorties is negligible on mild motors without sacrificing ground clearence. What are the HP / Torque comparisons between shorties and LT.

Re: 2000 4.6L Headers

On a stock motor, maybe three to five at best, to the wheels. On Forced induction is where the tubes shine.
