93 protege with trans out

I'm looking at buying, very cheaply, a 93 protege from a freind at work. It belongs to his son but the transmission is almost completely out. It will not go into reverse at all and will just barely move in first. Automatic of course. It has 130k on it but I have no idea what it would cost to have the trans rebuilt on it. Does anyone know? I'm not sure it is worth fixing the car. It is kinda beat up a little but all I need is a car to drive to work. I have a 96 Trans Am and don't want to drive it when the weather is bad. Also need something for the snow next winter here in MO. Any ideas would be great. He said the car runs fine otherwise.
