Re: 383 Stroker Swap

FIRST & formost always run the spacific oil weight and filter from factory specs. Change oil & filter when new at 500Mi. then 1500Mi. then at regular 2000 to 3000mi. When you hit 10,000 to 12,000Mi. using the same weight oil switch to a quality synthetic like mobile or castrol. ( BUT STILL CHANGE AT 2,000mI. TO 3,000Mi.) Filter and oil must be done at the same time the oil and filter build up contanaments and the filter has a bipass valve.

One more thing I forgot.
Starting your truck for the first time each day, let it warm up for 5Min.
metal expands and contracts with temp. parts might be a little dry on start up, so this will help a lot also.
Start the truck get a cup of coffee, kiss the wife, huge the kids &
KICK the dog and your ready to go.

you will defintly need an aftermarket chip. the fuel demand will be too much for the stock computer.......under a high demand situation the motor will run lean.......doing this for too long and u can say good bye to that new motor. u might wanna run some type of high flow air intake and exhaust system. hypertek or jet performance should be able to make u a chip, u miight be able to just buy an aftermarket chip and be fine.

I installed a 350 putting out 510hp using tb, and amongst other things, programming is definately a must. There are many free software programs out there that will allow you to do your own tuning if you have the time (which is what I did) and little computer knowledge is necessary. The vehicle did actually start and run before any programming was done but it was sending way more fuel than the engine could burn along with many other things that weren't being monitored and adjusted correctly, like timing ect. I will say that this took several months to accomplish and I am still getting everything wrung out.

For an example: I'm running a gear drive on this motor. The ecm saw this (noise) as a "spark knock" and was trying to correct this by adjusting the timing. This took a considerable amount of time to troubleshoot. Once I figured out why the timing wasn't consistant I was forced to either get rid of the gear drive or get rid of the knock sensor. I chose the later and bypassed the sensor.

There are also other things that you can do too (adjustable map sensors, vacume pumps, ect that can "fool" the computer too.

I know this is an old thread. But I would like to know where you found the free software. I've been looking for it and haven't found any yet.
