my brand new 04 sunfire burned up in my driveway

Hey guys
I hope someone can help me out here. I just bought a 2004 sunfire on the 13th. I havent even had it for 2 weeks, and yesterday i drove home from work, parked the car in the driveway, and i wasn't even in the house for 5 minutes, and my car was up in flames. Something under the hood was on fire. THE CAR WAS BRAND NEW!!!!! it only had 1000kms on it! we couldn't get the fire out at all, the fire department was called and everything. It is some faulty part, but as of right now, no one knows what. There is talk about it being fuel related, maybe fuel injection problem, but no one knows.
SO my question is:
has anyone ever had this happen?? or heard of anything like this??
I am also wondering if anyone knows of a website where i can check into problmes with 2004 sunfires, to find out if this is a common problem, or a freak accident. Also i'm looking to see if anything has happened like this before

please let me know! any help is greately appreciated!
either post here, or my email address is [email protected]

thanks again

Well there is a recall out for 1999-2002(?) Sunfires and Cavaliers for a possible igintion switch fire, but your model dosn't fall under that category. Sorry about the car, that sucks.

yah it does suck, the recall you are talking about is in the ignition, my fire started under the hood, nothing to do with the ignition. I have heard about that though, my friend has a 2002 cavalier. Still no word on what started it though, I'm still waiting. They are supposed to get me another car just like the one I had, but i'm worried that this is going to be a problem with the 04 sunfires. I hope i don't get one for it to be just recalled, or for another fire to start.

I got a letter in the mail a while back about a recall on my car. Mine is a 98 and it shouldn't apply to your car but....The letter said that it was something with the ignotion switch and there had been some cars that just caught on fire for seemingly no reason until they found the defect. You should contact them about that since it was supposed to be fixed before your year.
