Broken hood release!

I went to open the hood on my '97 pickup and the hood did not pop open. I think the cable is disconnected up by the hood latch. Now what? Does someone know how to get the hood open?
Maybe through the grill?

Does it feel like there is tension on the cable or does it move super easy?? Have you tried having someone pull on the latch and banging the front of the hood with your hand ?? Sometimes when they need to be lubed or adjusted the latch sticks a little unless you wack the hood.

It pulls freely. No tension what so ever. I think I can hear the cable up by the latch rattling around.
