Whining Noise
My 99 Yukon has developed a whine under the hood. I took it to a mechanic here (Memphis) that comes highly recommended. He said it was either the belt (just replaced with a Gator belt 3 months ago) or my fan clutch is going out. My questions are:
He slowly stopped my fan with a rag, said "Your fan clutch is going out". Isn't the fan supposed to stop if you slow it down like that, isn't that normal? It almost sounds like a flywheel or something like that, it continues to whine/spin when I come to a stop. He also said that I would be OK to drive to Jackson MS and back (400 mi total) this week. All gauges are OK, drives fine. Any thoughts? |

Re: Whining Noise
I took it back to the same dealer and had them keep it for a day and test it. Turned out to be the alternator and pully/bearings. Replace these and all is well.
Thought this may help someone down the line. |
