Unhappy 97 chevy 1500 transmission

Would not return to overdrive after pulling a hill then service engine light appeared. After stopping and restarting engine worked ok untill the next hill and same thing. After driving around town light went off and all seems to be ok for now. Fluid levels ok

Re: 97 chevy 1500 transmission

have it scanned for codes, probably has a P1870 in history and could use a valve body kit to repair a worn valve passage that the TCC uses

There was a recall on the 97's for trans. problems and it may be for the problem you are having. There was some update I believe with the electrical for it ,But I am not sure. You may want to check it out.

Hmmmm...usually 1870 doesn't inhibit 4th. Just harsh upshifts. But anything is programable. I second Jeremys thoughts.
