Help!!!...is this a buy or not???

I am looking to buy a 1994 3000gt SL. Its an automatic, has intake, exhaust, and even nitrous with some other little extras. They put a new motor in the car and has 19,000 miles on the new engine and replaced the tranny 2 or 3 times. I don't understand why they didnt change it to a manual??? But anyhow i'm not even sure if they thrashed on the car for them to get a new motor and change the tranny. But they are asking $12,000 for the car. is it worth it??? Help me please

Well, mods technically don't add to the value of a car, but if you want them, then you might be willing to pay more for them. You can always use www.kbb.com to get an idea of an average asking price. But just realize the car is worth what someone would be willing to pay for it. My car is about 22k, but I could easily turn around and sell it for 29 in this area.
As far as insurance. Get as many deductions as possible. Take defensive driving, get your VIN etched into the windows, check if your company lowers insurance if you get good grades(assuming you are still a student), basically just ask your insurance provider of ways to lower your insurance, also pay in 6 month incriments, not every month, when I did this and called Progressive, they dropped 300 off annually for paying every 6 months rather than monthly. There are plenty of ways to lower it, you can also raise your deductible to a grand rather than 500(if you don't plan on crashing it, and know that you will be able to come up with a grand in the event of an accident) that lowered it some for me as well. So just call and ask.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

Re: Help!!!...is this a buy or not???

I agree that the car's worth is based on the person selling the car and the one buying it, but I think $12K is too much for a '94 SL. First of all, it's an automatic and from the way it sounds, you'd prefer a manual. So if you're gonna be dropping a whole bunch of bills on a car, I'd say buy a car that you're FULLY satisfied with. That way you could see another car that you like but you'd still be happy with yours. Secondly, the whole replacing the tranny 2 or 3 times is kinda...well....suspicious!?! I mean, what the hell do you do to a car that you'd have to replace it that many times you know!?! So yeah, I'd say keep looking until you find a car that you're TOTALLY happy with. It'll probably take some time, but patience is a virtue....and you'll be happy when you do find "the one." LOL Just my thoughts......

You could find a VR4, a nice VR4 for a lot less then 12k. Im sure it would probably be faster too even with the SL's mods.
