Thanks Cychalen. I've never used any photo etched stuff yet. I'm still a rookie.

"How new is he?", you ask.

Well this is the first model that I made my own parts on. Mirror, wires going into the injectors, butterfly valves for the injectors, tube to hold the spark plug wires (going down the middle, top of the engine) and wiring harness going around the top of the engine.

This is the frist model that I used a black wash to detail door and trunk edges. I used a scribe to get some depth in the grooves and then a 8:1 thinneraint wash. I think that ruled. I added a drop of orange paint into the black wash, just to get a little better feel. Although, it's really hard for the eye to see it...you feel it instead.

I'm in the process of building a wing. I snapped the one that came in the kit.

I learnt in this model to read the instructions ALL THE WAY THROUGH before step one is started. The last step in the instructions has one painting the two colour trim around the windows. (yeah right!) I had to take the whole model apart, pull the roll bar and windows to paint the trim. And lemme tell ya, 2 colour trim SUCKS BIG ONES. It's SO hard to do. Tamiya doesn't give ANY room to paint the orange on the A frame. One the 1:1 it's HUGE, on the model, it's non-existant. I had to cheat just to get 'some' orange in there.

Still, this is the most fun model I've did since the last one. I'm learning a ton and trying new stuff every build. I really love building and now that I'm getting into some of the finer aspects of modeling, I'm having a blast.

BTW: doesn´t the real car have the front spoiler intakes blanked? I have this doubt since I only have seen side photos of this version.

Good eyes and knowledge about the front intakes, You know your BMWs. I checked my reference photos and found 2 versions, one totally blanked out and one with, what looks like solid metal covers.




I think I'll do the chrome (with a black wash) version.

Thanks Samurai, I say, "Go for it bro". I love this ride and would like to see everyone here on AF build one (or two). It would be nice loading the 'Completed and in Progress' page and not seeing 10 versions of the same JDM

Wow, that's awesome! Thanks. I tried HLJ they wanted 2400 yenzo for it, ($21.00 USD) So, I ordered it from 'www.racingminitures.com' Total $14.31 USD.

Glad you like it DJPaul. I have some great "not your typical AF" builds coming up. My next build is going to be an Excalibur SS Roadster, 1:12 scale. It's BIG! Also it will be the first model that I airbrush.

Thanks rx7king. I think it's a very cool kit too. It's probably one of the only orange cars that I could have.

I'm glad you like it doucmehu and Aubrey is a cool name. I named it after a girl that helped me out once.

In the near future,I will be building the same model and I`m also thinking of buying these parts.I think it would be a shame to ruin such a perfect model with coloured window trims.Metal really does the job here.

Nope, I just ordered them yesterday. I look forward to the trim and extras that come in the package.

I hear ya. There are some here on AF that's all they do. skyline after skyline. They should be able to throw the kit up in the air and have it land completed by now. Granted, some are totally awesome builds but I think modeling is more than that. Well, it is to guys like us. One kit that everyone tends to build is the S2000, I LOVE that car. I get wood seeing one in real life. I would love to build it but I would rather devote my time and effort to the 'unusual' kits.
