My Sunday (Cars and drifting - PIC HEAVY!! 56K ANNIHILATION!!)

Okay, went up to Manfeild Autocourse today, about two hours north of me for round 2 of D1NZ. Got up at 5am, left at 5:20. Got there about 7:30, before anyone else. We hung around for a bit then a 180SX turned up (first pic) then later on a people started to show up. Shitloads of drift cars arriving on trailers. Because we were there first we weren't charged an entrance fee And it was FUCKING FREEZING today.

About 40 cars entered, and there were some awesome cars just parked around.

quotes of the day:

"Please listen to the martials, and slow down when they wave their flags. That means you XXX XXXX Mister drift-past-the-towtruck!"

"DORIFT BATTRE!! Dori dori for yo ass!"
(Both from the commentator)

Carnage:

Several bumpers removed (the drivers zip-tie them on so they don't shatter and detach easily)

One A31 (desert storm camo) snapped 3 wheel studs when it bedded into the dirt

One S13 written off after nailing the wall

A few love taps between cars

One S14 bumper shattered (orange one)

(nice plate)

RB25 S13...didst layeth much smoke with fantastic glee and impunity

Only rotary that entered

Probably my favourite car there, along with the white and camo A31s

This thing rolled last week...NO SPIN..(all roll)

Bling bling!

Bling Bling! pt 2

Waiting in the pits

AND NOW THE DRIFTING

Yes, they're shithouse photos, I had a zoom lens, but I still wasn't close enough. I think they came out alright. Never got enough smoke in the pics though

(Note the front bumper of the S14)

Wheeeeeeee!

Look at the car on the right...

Another RB25 S13

One battle damaged 180SX. (not all from today)

The 180SX following couldn't see shit and spun out...this was in a 1 on 1 battle

About half a second after this shot was taken the two kissed eachother...cue bumpers flying everywhere...

Awesome day today!

Just to explain how it worked:

They did a few practice rounds, 12 cars at a time, just drift to get into the groove.

Then a few qualifying rounds, 12 cars at a time, the top 16 go through to the battles.

In a battle, cars face off against eachother. One car leads, and the following car has to keep up and match its drifts. Both cars are scored on speed (entering and sustaining the drift), angle (how sideways they get) and style (smoke, opening the door mid drift, hand/foot/penis out the window etc), and the following car is scored chase points, depending on how close it gets to the lead car. They then swap around. If a car spins, it forfeits. The car with the most points at the end of two laps wins.

1.7x magnification. Not as much as I'd want, but it was the best I could find for the camera. I wish I could have got into the pits to take pics from the barriers.
