I have an 04 toyota corolla an I noticed a grinding feeling coming from the driverside front wheel. The first tech said it was out of my mind. Today I took the wheel off and was able to pull the rotor out about 1/2 to 1 inch while the caliper was attached. along with that I was able to spin my rotor fromfrom left to right with no problem. This does not happen on the right side at all. Would you say there is a real issue with the car? the dealer where I purchased it doesnot think so.
Please if anybody has had this problem let me know. Thanks |

It's to my understanding that once you've removed the caliper hardware, the rotor just slides off. There's nothing that holds it in place, except the hub and the caliper pads. The rotor is not bolted down of anything like that.
What you can check is whether or not the backing plate is rubbing against the inner edge of the wheel while you are driving. Jack the car up and spin the wheel slowly to see if you're getting any rubs. Good luck,

Re: Can somebody tell me if I am right?
Ya see that is the thing. The caliper was still bolted on when all of this happened(see above post) that is what has me wondering what is going on? I personally do not rememberor think there should be that much play in the rotor. I could be wrong but need it confirmed.

Due to the design of how the rotor fits on the hub, it's not common to get play from it. The only thing I can suggest is to get a replacement rotor, but I don't think it will be any different....

Re: Can somebody tell me if I am right?
Thanks for the help but while this is under warranty I will not be making any changes like that.
