Where is the backup/reverse light switch located on 1996 VW Jetta Automatic. Lights does not work, I checkes the bulbs and fuse so I assume its the switch.

did you check on the tranny? depending on the year of the car, there should be some sort of electrical connection on the tranny. if not, i would check under the gear selector (stick) in the car, maybe there is a switch back there...

Re: Reverse/backup light switch

I believe it's part of the multi-function transmission range switch on the upper part of the transmission near the selector cable. There is an error in my wiring diagram, but it involves a signal through the trans control module to a back up light relay (actually called the park/neutral relay). Power comes from fuse #14, check that first. The relay is in position 14, thats on the add on section above the main relay panel section, lower row second from left. Hope that helps.
