Outside Door Rubber Strips

The trim (I think that is the term), the rubber strips on the door sides. Well, mine are falling off like so may VWs I see driving. I tried a few different adhesives to get it back on the car. After awhile it would fall off again. Does anyone have a clue the best way to fix these strips?

3M makes a very good body trim adhesive tape for this application. Go to a bodyshop supply store.

what is the name of the 3M product, and would I find it at autozone. Also does anyone know of an upgrade...such as hard plastic pieces, or something besides the rubber?

No the rubber strips on the outside of the door on the level with the wheel wells. To protect the door panels from other car doors hitting the sides. I tried fixing them with silicone and some other glues for plastic. But when the weather changes and the rubber shrinks and expands with the heat/cold, it comes off the car. I just need to know if there is anything better that I can use that will fix this, or body upgrade.

I have had good luck with gorilla glue which I got at home depot. I glued down the edges as they started to come loose. I applied the stuff with a small brush and clamped down the edges with bar grip clamps, keeping the doors open for a few hours to accomodate the clamps. Dont over use the glue since it expands as it cures.

I'll have to go look, the stuff I use costs about $30 a roll (1"x50') and specifically made for auto trim. 3M makes lots of types of tape, it's not the two sided carpet type tape they also make?

It is called auto trim body tape and is 1/2" wide and on a 15' roll. It's made by 3M and in the auto section at K-Mart. It looks exactly like the tape that was originally used on my trim. It's gray with red plastic that you pull off. I used it before on one of my other doors and it worked fine. It was around $6 I believe. You put 2 strips on each section of trim. just make sure that you remove all of the old tape and clean the door panel real good.

I'll have to look for it there, sound like the same stuff. That's about what I'm having to pay (by the foot). I don't always need such a big roll though, it takes me about a year to go through these big rolls.
