93 325ic muffler, tailpipe

My 325ic needs a new muffler and probably tailpipe according to the dealer service department. I have no mechanical aptitude. Does it matter if I go to a non-BMW muffler shop to get the work done, is a Midas as good as BMW parts, for example. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!

My experience w/ Midas is they like to push you to by extra crap you dont need. As for the quality of the mufflers and pipes i am not really sure they have warrantys so i assume they will stand by them. If you do take it to one of those shops don't let them push you into other stuff that is not needed

thanks very much for your reply. How do I recognize things that are not required?

Well on your car if you need tailpipe and mufflers they will have clamps and gaskets that connect each part those you will need. I think the best thing to do is get an estimate at Midas and a different muffler shop in your area and see what the cost differences are. Don't let them push you in doing the job also let them show you underneith the car and look at what is broke or rusted out. If you see it then you can have an idea of parts that are not good.
