Plug Wire Suggestions

I just got my 97 Cobra back from the shop to have it checked for some rough running. They tell me that the #1 cylinder is missing a bit and that the wires and plugs should be replaced. The wire in particular, they state, has probably overheated and is causing some carbon build-up. The wires are only 6 months old and the plugs have about 20k miles on them. They wanted over $500 to do this after I just dropped $800 to get the injectors cleaned and a sensor replaced on the secondary intake runners.

I'm looking for some brand suggestions. The set I installed last year were FRPP and needless to say, I'm not crazy about buying another set unless I just got a bum wire. They don't have to be high-performance as this is a daily driver with minimal mod's and 108k miles.

Also, is anyone familiar with a company that will sell just the one wire to match?

Re: Plug Wire Suggestions

That's correct - 500 big ones. Insane. I'm not sure how they came to that number, but as soon as he told me, I said to button it up and I'd be right there. Sad thing is, they are a reputable dealership, but are charging upwards of $86/hr for labor.

ok.. well thats pretty much illegal to charge that much.. i'll brake it down..
50 bucks for great plugs
80 buck for great wires
---
130 tops.
basicly there gonna charge you 370 bucks for 25 min of work(at the most)
man. just go out and buy a new set of plugs and wires your self, like you said if you don't high preformance stuff then just buy the "normal" stuff. just make sure to gap the plugs right and do one at a time. (take off one wire and one plug at one time.. then replace them, then move to the next..). its noting hard, just make sure to gap to the right space. ever if its your first time then it will take you 30-40 min TOPS.

Re: Plug Wire Suggestions

Exactly. This will be my 4th set of plugs (on this car), so I'm getting real good at it. Any suggestions on brand of wire?

Thanks for the reply.

anytime, glad to help. if its your 4th time then you shouldn't have any problems.

my favorite brand of wires would have to be Moroso, but their a little bit on the expensive side due to the high performance level.. Accel also makes some GREAT wires at an even better price. shouldn't have to many problems with those wires.

Wow, um, they totally took you man. A tune-up should cost under $200 for plugs, wires, cap/rotor. It's easy, next time just do it yourself. And if you need any help we'll walk ya through it. I like the FMS wires. They're cheap and have worked great for me. If I had the money and need for em, I'd get the Taylor 104's. Nice wires! For plugs, autolites, autolites, autolites.
