Sensor lights flicker, ABS & brake, car dies

Can anyone help with this electrical problem??

During one incident the ABS and Brake lights came on and stayed on then didn't come on the next time I drove the car. Then there was one incident when I was at a stop and the sensor lights came on at random (the gas light, some other lights), and all electricity flickered including the radio. After proceeding to the next stop the car died but started right back up. It has not happened again. On a separate occasion though the ABS and brake sensor lights came on just like before and stayed on and then went off the next time I drove the car. I had the alternator and battery diagnosed at AutoZone and they found no problems.

Ideas?

Check all wiring harness. Maybe the incident damage your car wiring harness. Check fuses, relays, and other electrical things.

check wiring behind battary pull the tape and make sure are not corroded

SOmetimes the dashboard lights behave like that when the voltage swings on the system are too great. Check that the battery is ok and that the terminals are not corroded, that the alternator is ok.

What year is your GTP?

After I bought my 99 GTP, I had the same problem. It occurred on numerous occasions. After having a certified mechanic go through my entire electrical system, he couldn't figure out the problem either. My car would have power surges and the ABS/Traction Control system lights would blink on and off. Then, the car would die. The problem: the ABS/Traction Control Module. This module knocked out my trip computer module, my alternator, and my battery because it was faulty.

See if you can find a decent mechanic to take a look at that module. Do not take it the to dealership, or you will be spending at $1,000. I was lucky enough that the mechanic I went to found a used module that was in excellent condition for less that $300.00, and I paid a total of $800.00 for the fix.

99GTPGirl, that is really an excpetion to the rule. Usually all the internal electrical systems fail because a voltage swing to high on the electrical system. If one of the subsystems has short like what you describe it will then cause the main system (battery and/or alternator) to fail(This is not usual, usually is the other way around, main system fails subsystem fails)

Thanks Kilroypr. One thing to note: I did not have a high voltage swing. My mechanic and I went through my entire electrical system. Only until we found that the ABS/Traction Control module was faulty did it fix the problem of the constant dying of the car. Once that was fixed, I had no choice but to replace the alternator and battery. Now, I'm in the process of replacing the DIC module so that I can have that on my car.

Gotta love these cars that are controlled by computer modules that cost thousands of dollars to replace and are not covered by warranties.

IS not high voltage swing is something like from 13v to 10v and viceversa. And I understand, your module when south and one too often could ground a main circuit cable causing the car to stall/die. Not normal but possible. And you are coorect, you got to love these cars to spend big bucks on parts like that
