Re: Best Exhaust

cat converter more or less cleans up your exhaust gases before they are let out into the atmosphere. people say to take it off because it is probably the most restrictive part of your exhaust. but if you take it off you won't be smog legal. if you're tight on funds, buy a weld on muffler and have an exhaust shop bend the rest of the piping from the cat back and you'll have a complete custom catback at a fraction of the cost of a prefab catback exhaust.

If you remove your cat, then you'll have to fill in the gap space with a straight or test pipe. Otherwise just keep it on. No real need to remove it unless you really need to. You won't pass a smog check without a cat-converter, and you'll have your check engine light on 24/7 if you remove it as well, sine your O2 sensors rely on the cat to get their correct readings.

Re: Best Exhaust

i guess this post might be a bit old, but i really didnt get a str8 answer when i was reading the forum. my question when i first searched and found this post was.....which exhaust system should i get?....i've been looking at cat-back exhaust and they seem to range from really low prices to somewhat high (349 - MAGNA FLOW to 795 - JIC MAGIC) and i will have to install it myself....which i have no problem with. I came into this post trying to get peoples opinion on which cat-back would be the best without really spending much...i know its impossible, but why not try. Also, i notice that they also sell high-flow cats....i assume i will need one if im changing my exhaust since what good will it do if i have the OEM cat on. hope someone can help. oh yeah, i have a 2000 civic ex incase anyone wanted to know.

Go with Apex'i WS, sounds good to me, but as usual you won't get any gains with it unless you're pumping out some high numbers. At least some sort of forced induction will be needed to see some gains worth while.

If forced induction, go with the Apexi N1 over the WS. Turbo's really quiet the exhaust down alot. Then again I like quiet exhaust that's why I'm keeping my WS on even though I'm losing probably 30hp because of it.

Probably just do a cutout for the track, haven't descided on it yet though. Anyone know where to find a reasonably priced 2 1/2" remote cutout. Really hate to jack the car up so I can get under to unbolt the cutout.
