need help on engine swap
I have a 97 civic ex, and i amd debating whether i want to put a b18c1 engine in it or not, never having done a swap i have a few questions.
1. will swaping my engine cause any major problems 2. will the new engine run as smooth as it did before the swap. and three i would like people that have done this give their opinions of their swap...good idea, bad idea, etc.. |

Re: need help on engine swap
1. If you do the swap right and don't cut corners you will not have any problems unless the engine was in bad shape before you swapped it.
2. It will run just as smooth as before the swap. 3. Can't help you there, never did swap an engine myself.

the car is still a hell of a lot of fun though. the b18c1 has way more torque than the little d16, it will take down quite a few cars out there, like for example a d16 with a turbo, or a b16 civic, etc.who am I kidding? I just like to burn rubber and listen to the motor sing its way up through the gears! if you do the swap, PUT IN GOOD MOTOR MOUNTS AT THE SAME TIME!!! my valve cover has hit the hood in a few places because the stock motor mounts don't hold it well enough

Re: need help on engine swap
the install was pretty damn easy but I have done a decent amount of that kind of work. i have done engine swaps before, numerous tranny swaps, etc. take it one step at a time and make notes of where things go when you take them off. the b18c1 will bolt right into the car, the part that took the most time for me was to be careful while wiring the harness to correctly run the knock sensor, IAB (the black box under the intake mani that controls the secondary intake ports), and the charcoal canister. as long as you get the gsr engine harness things wont be that hard. all you will have to do is add a few pins to your ecu harness to work correctly with the p72 that the gsr needs, then run those wires through the firewall and connect them to the engine harness.
that proy sounds hard, but research it and it will make more and more sense. search for "p72 ecu pinouts" "gsr wiring diagrams" and other things like that and you should be able to find info to help you
