what would you do

if you were going to buy a car that was a weekend driver and maybe a track car . what would it be an yes newer then 95 and under $15k thats just the car no mods theres more money for that... were just thinking about the car right now....what car and why...

Lotus 7, or similar Kit car copy.

Why? Becuase there is nothing more pure and enjoyable, and the things you can do with it are limited by your skill and mechanical knowledge.

Or, an early Type R intergra, or Civic.
Why? Reliable, and lots of fun to drive, also makes for an awsome track car with little or no mods, and again the limit you can take the car to is dictated by your skill and knowledge, and of course your wallet.

Theres plenty of class's of racing both cars will also fit into, and heaps of club support as well.
They are also both built to be driven, by enginers who love cars and motorsport. The Accountants were kicked out of the office for thier design and construction. (in the case of the Lotus there wern't any to begin with) .

I'm biased toward what I own but I'd say your best bang for buck would be an LS1 (98+) Camaro or Firebird... got mine for 15K. It's the most HP you can get for the money, and will run low 13s stock. Other cars have to "work up" to low 13s... a few mods and you are into twelves, I know DSM guys struggle to break into 12s. Just my opinion.

Theres more to a car than how fast it will run down the 1/4.
Anyone can make a car run a fast 1/4, but it dosnt mean shit when it comes to making it nice to drive, or enjoyable. Some of the nicest weekend cars Iv driven would have struggeled to break out of the high teens down the 1/4, but on an open road on a nice day were a real blast, and would have been even more fun a tight race track, either on thier own, or with cars from a similar class.

Unless of course your a 1/4 mile junky, in which case your missing about 90% of what it means to actualy drive car, and it dosnt matter what you buy. Just make sure its RWD and has a V8.

i would buy a 300zx tt (most people here could of guessed that). you can find a nice one for 15k. it handles wonderfully and can touch into the high 13's. another car i would look at for the track would be the mr-2. their mid-engine layout is a huge plus for the track.

If you don't mind getting a slightly older car and working under the hood yourself, you can probably find a early-mid90's Mustang, Camaro, Trans Am, etc. for less than $5,000 if you do a bit of looking, isn't really hard to find. Then you'll have $10,000 left over to mod it any way you like, and $10k is a whole lot of money just for modding, especially when you're starting out with a car with over 200hp.

get a 3000gt vr4 those are really bad ass cars. a little heavy but damn its fast. like i always tell everyone be unique dont get a Mustang or Camaro the'yre fast but everyone and their dad has one. you could also maybe get a 300zx or an RX7 BOTH AMAZING CARS. I would also recommend a Supra but they're probably really expensive right now. So whatever you decide to get have fun and go kick some ass.

Not that the 3000gt isn't a good car, but this guy needs a new excuse, just admit that he just has a bias for the car and would recommend it to everyone. He most likely drives one, most people would recommend the car they own or have owned.

My buying decision isn't based on what other people buy or don't buy. I can care less what other people do, I don't dress with the current fad, I don't listen to the current fads in music, I don't talk, or act like the current fads, etc. etc. And to top it all off, I don't purposefully avoid following the fads. There are plenty of people who would do anything to be different. I can care less, if the fads all of a sudden changed to exactly what I wear everyday, whatever, I won't change, I dress the way I do because I'm comfortable in it.

Same thing with my choice of cars. The foxchassis Mustang is visually pleasing to me. Sitting inside the car is comfortable for me, I like the wheel position, the pedal position, the seat level, the visual from within the cabin, etc. etc. I've tried other cars, and I feel most at home inside this particular year Mustang, and that's all that matters. It doesn't matter if it was the world's most popular car, or if it was the world's least popular car.

And you should do the same kingpin, try out the cars you are considering, and see which one suits YOU the most. Don't care about the people around you. The only thing that should concern you are issues of reliability. That's about the only time you would need to worry about other people who have owned the car. Consult people you know who might own the car you're considering, ask them of any specific problem that might be specific to the model you are interested in.

Example, the 1990 Acura Integra that I owned, had a very model specific problem. It was found that the modulator valve in the Automatic transmission that could easily get jammed open by sediments. This would cause the flooding of shift solenoids. It was mainly a problem with year 1990-1992 Integras.

Check each model you're willing to get, and see the model specific problems each of them had. If anything arouses your attention, make sure to include it in your questioning to owners of the car in question. You can gain a lot of insight on the car this way. Everyone has Camaros and Mustangs, seems to me it's the opposite, everyone has an import/is on imports' nuts. But everyone is going to recomend what they drive anyway.
I'm not a 1/4 junkie or whatever you want to call it, I own a car that also handles pretty well and is FAST!!! Fun to drive=fast now doesn't it. Fast and handle... come on, a good handling car w/ 135HP isn't any fun, at least when it gets smoked by a soccer mom. And the question was a weekend/ track car, so you'll want something that is decent at the track, right?

Now that is a great pick. You can get a used Lotus for not a lot of cash. Hell, you can even get a damn Twin Turbo Esprit for around $40,000. Lotus is known for making some of the best chassis and suspension setups in the world. Also, I agree that there is a lot more to speed than simply going straight. On another note, they are damn fine looking cars as well.

Im kinda biased towards a BMW E36 3-series. Great cars, handle like a god. A recent study actually shows that BMW drivers get the most sex... so isnt that the true motivation behind everything men do?

Another good car that you should be able to find would be a Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. Great car, pretty fast, AWD.

Lotus is definitely a huge name in handling. If you can get a Lotus, and you like the styling, definitely go for it. For me, I've never really liked the Lotus' styling, just not my thing, but never thought they were bad cars at all.

Also, about someone getting smoked by a soccer mom, I saw a kid with a hooked up Integra revving his engine next to some kid in a hooked up Civic at a stoplight. Next to both of them was someone in a stock Dodge Caravan that neither kid even looked at. When the light turned green, and them two went at it, the Dodge Caravan smoked both of them, it was hilarious.

That happened with me once too, I was actually BEHIND one of the kids that was going to race another kid in a rice-bucket, so I actually had to wait until they got far enough ahead of the person in the row next to them so I can switch lanes before I could really punch it, and I passed both of them easy, and they weren't even racing me, and they had a head start since they were in front of me. I threw on my emergency blinkers just to piss them off.
