Re: what engine

b18b ? b18c ? b18c5 ? even a b16a2 and a b16b will work ..just dont get the h22 idea iny our head like some people..
what do you want from this vehicle..? that makes a diff on which plant you opt for ..do you want to go forced induction an some point, are you gonna be building the internals, are you going for a high compression street motor or are you looking for stock power with just the addition of common mods ??? throw some more imput out bro

Re: what engine

its fine for a track car.. but the handling of a h22 in a civic horrible, and alot of people consider it such an easy option due to the mount positioning and the 200hp over the 160 of the b16 and the 2300 going rate. no way around it, an h22 makes a civic front heavy and simple things such as moderate speed turning becomes playful...i could go on and on on why i think its not a good option.
no way around the fact that a b-series is the only logical choice here

Re: what engine

its going to be a street demon by the time im done with it its just the matter of what engine...... the h22 was the first thing to pop in my head and i was evenn goin to buy my friends prelude just to get the motor out of it but then i started reading up on the h22 and found out that it wasnt a good ideal...... im just trying to get a good idea bout wat to put in my car im leaning more toward the b18 so if it was you wat would u put in it

Re: what engine

if i was going to turbocharge it with under 10lbs of boost then i would get an b18b LS motor, or an LS/VTEC...if i wanted to run more than 10lbs of boost then i would get rather a b18b LS or a b18c GSR and build the internals up.. if i was making a nasty all motor street beast I would go with a b18c GSR motor !!

Re: what engine

All right, I was going to let you run with it, but slow it on down. The H22A, ok, it isn't an ideal motor for a Civic, but, it has proven itself in the arena, and is a viable choice. The reason I would have for a H22A being avoided is that, in order to make it function well in a Civic will cost a lot more than the intial cost, as you will be spending a bit more to compensate the weight issue.

The reason for my intradiction is the ITR thing. An ITR motor isn't going to be touched by a GSR for the difference in cost. I mean really the inital cost difference is only about $700-$900, both need shipping and installation so we'll just call it $3100 and $4000. Now show me headwork, intake manifold, and cams/valvetrain for $700-$900, now installing it all, add all the gaskets, headbolts, yadda parts yadda.

And on the boost thing, why choose the lesser motor to start with, the GSR is a much better candidate for boost than the LS, and has a better tranny. Cost is the only issue to consider when an LS is concerned IMO. Cost is the reason for the LSvtec. It is a cheaper alternative for LS guys to make some more power over swapping the motor, but it isn't a monster off the bat, it has to be built to make the power everyone seems to think it offers.

Re: what engine

my choice for the ls/vtec was simply based on running mild boost on stock internals due to the lower comression..now if i was building it ( which is what i did ) i would opt for the gsr.. and if you can find a b18c5 for 4000 then we need to talk because about 4800 is what ive seen for years..now if your talking 4000 from ebay or something than that doesnt count due to the shiesty nature of the sellers on there. now if he was getting an b18c5 for 4000 ? then i would say go for the Type R all the way..no questions asked

Re: what engine

but in all realness for the money he is gonna try to throw down off the bat, and if him not finding a 4000 type r then the GSR is going to be his best available choice for an all-motor car ...its only logical

Very first shop I checked. 96-97 ITR swaps $3999 complete swap. Something is wrong either with hmootrsonline site or my computer because I can't open them up right now.

Re: what engine

yeah for that price not going with an ITR would just be rediculous... the cost of putting the LSD from the ITR to the GSR alone is in the difference...
yeah i would ride that all the way..being that it is an all-motor set up hes looking for
