Re: Changing your rev limit

What kind of motor do you have? What car? Is it stock? Is it built? Has it been reinforced?

Gotta give us a little more details if you want an informative answer. If none of the above has been addressed, you'll probably blow your motor up.

ahh... im just thinkin about stuff to do with my car and the order i wanna do it in... right now i have a stock 95 del sol vtec... so thats not saying much... but what do you think about changing the rev limit. from what i understand the vtec runs better at higher rpms. when would u suggest changing the rev limit... if even suggesting changing it at all. should i like not even be thinking about it now? i want a fast street legal car but im still trying to find more ideas to make it faster and one was changing the rev limit.

Re: Changing your rev limit

If you have a VTEC model, you've got a B16A (or do you have an Si? Some people confuse the two). I wouldn't recommend changing the redline on the motor at all until you've built it sufficiently to warrant changing the redline and reinforced it to be able to handle 9,000rpm's. I believe the B16A stock valve springs are good to 8,500rpm's for instance.

First thing's first - focus on the basics. Intake, header, and exhaust. Maybe some better spark plug wires. Then maybe some other things. Lighter wheels, better suspension setup, maybe work on engine internals like clutch and flywheel, and work towards a built or turbo setup if you have a budget to handle that. Just decide which route you want for your car before you start trying things that will destroy your motor if you don't know what you're doing.

Re: Changing your rev limit

im pretty sure you can hook up a manual switch for you Vtec. The reason that the Vtec model sol has better pickup at higher RPMs is that the Vtec switches, allowing more air into the cylinders. You can hook up a switch to do this manually, put a trigger on your stick shift or something, you could throw the Vtec @ like 4000 RPMs instead of 5500 or 6000 whatever it flips at. I'm under the impression that the Vtec is designed how it is to prevent the motor from getting too much air when trying to idle. Otherwise its all good. Wait for other opinions before you look too far into this though

Re: Changing your rev limit

u do NOT want to lower vtec to ingage at 4000rpms. it will bog down. there is no reason to raise the rev limit unless you have aftermarket cams, springs, valves, etc that are ment to go to that rpm. otherwise ur just asking for problems since stock parts werent ment to operate at that rpm.

Re: Changing your rev limit

Push the gas, motor makes lots of low pitched noise, car doesn't move as well. Similar to pushing the gas pedal in a gear or two higher than you should be when driving.
