My Brakes !!!!

Woohoo, so Rene came over and we started working on the back DRUM brakes ~ wow someone shoot me now! Well after making a mess of the drive way and then going back to Poop Boys, errr I meen Peb Boys and hitting on the chick that works there
and then forgeting the parts at home, we ended up not catching the stupid 6pm closing time! Blah, so anyways back to this DRUM brake question!

Since neither me nor Rene are super experts with stupid drum brakes... if my rear brakes arent locking with the ebrake pulled up (driver side catches not passenger side ~ with the car jacked up you can spin the tire with ease) would that be the pads? One thing I noticed was we popped the little "piston" thing out a few times and instead of POURING fluid which im used to seeing on disc brakes (first time doing drum brakes) I thought... could the combination of low fluid (thus needing a good helping of fluid and bleeding) and some skimpy brake pads in the back cause it to do that? Im hoping I didnt break anything too important... lol, anyone got any ideas?

did you try adjusting them? there should be a little thing that runs horizontal from shoe to shoe that has a little screw piece on it. thats the e brake cable adjustment screw. did you also trace the ebrake cable back to the lever?

Ummm, nope but the pads look worn anyways. So if the new shoes dont fix it... then I guess we will try the other stuff.

just remember rear pads arent that thick to begin with, 2/16ths is still acceptable in some state inspections. and dont overtighten that tension adjustment or you'll be riding the rears all the time.

Well was thinking about registering the car down here... no inspections. And when I say they are thin, they are THIN! Also if I register it down here only need the rear plate, and no stupid stickers on the front windsheild like NY. Plus again, no inspection... so I can rip out my streering wheel and sell it to Rene

Now if I could just find someone to buy the friggen rest of it... hahaha!

And what is this tension thing you are talking about??? Rene has the book (still gotta buy mine) and just wondering??

how do you remove the rear brake drums. I hammer the sides and try to pull it off and it won't go. I try to use two 8mm bolts to screw the brake drums off but when the screws were getting really tight, I stop for fear of breaking something. Do you have to release the brakes handle before you remove the rear brake drums?
