lowering springs

I have a 1971 chevy impala 4dr and im trying to lower it about 2". I found some lowering springs on ebay some time ago but they no longer have them. Can I use springs from a later year (90-96) or earlier (64-70). Any help would be appreciated.

71 impala 4dr (stock for now)

Re: lowering springs

You would be better off trying to fit the springs from a '61-'70 Impala into your car. Honestly, I've never had an Impala newer than a '67 so I'm not sure about the exact year of car that will have springs that will fit yours. I know that the '65-'70 Impalas use essentially the same frame and '61-'70 Impalas all use pretty much the same suspension. I'm not extremely familiar with your car but, I don't see why the '61-'70 Impala springs wouldn't fit . I would NOT use springs from a '90s car, since those cars are much lighter than your car and the suspension is configured differently. If you did find a way to install '90+ springs in your car, I'm sure that handling and ride height would be unpredictable.

I think Fat Man Fabrications make a 2" drop spindles that will fit full size Chevys from '55-'70 that might also fit your '71, or check with Eibach for lowering springs.

You should also check at a local junk yard to see if the suspension on a car from an earlier year is similar to yours.

If all else fails, you can always cut the springs you have.

Hope this helps.
