Holset turbo on a Honda?
Hey guys, Planning to upgrade my turbo soon (B18) and I just put in a brand new t3 .42 trim but I want to go bigger and keep the spool up time fairly desent. A guy is giving me a VERY good offer on a brand new Holset turbo for a cummings diesal engine (very good deal meaning the cost of a few tanks of gas) anyways he told me it would work good on my motor and would still spool quickly as it has a 4" outlet lol now this sounds rediculacly big but being that big it may spool up quick. The inlet flange on it he said looks like a T3 style, does anyone know if this is true? well what are you guys inputs on this because Im thinking of buying it even just to use a decoration in my room i can get it so cheap. Would it work good and effiecently on my motor?

Hmm yeah that turbo would probably be horrible on my motor, id probably be better off with a T4 upgrade but I got another question, how do you read compressor flow charts?

Yea desiel Turbos are usually too big for your honda. A compressor map has pressure ratios on the left, the numbers that look like 1.2,1.4,1.6,1.8,2, etc. and you get Your pressure ratio by doing this, (Boost + ATM)/ATM Where ATM is normally around 14.5 psi, its 14.7 at sea level and goes down as you get higher, but 14.5 is a good guesstimate (its like 2 thou above sea level). And on the bottom of the graph is the output, in either CFM or Lbs.
What you have to do is find out how much air your car will be consuming at different rpm's and compare that to the map You dont want consumption to the to the left of the surge line (the distinct line on the left side of the map) and of course if your too far too the right, then your engine is consuming more air then the turbo can put out @ that pressure ratio. If you dont know how to calculate some of these numbers, try this: http://www.mrcontrols.com/primers/sizing.htm HTH, Buzz1167 Jon N |
