Installing deck 99 civic - basic questions
OK so my stock deck was stolen out of my car and I bought a new deck lastnight. I was just going to find a wireing diagram and hook it up but my mechanic said I should find out if my stock alarm is or was wired to the radio and if so will hooking up a new one pose any problems with my alarm?
Some things I am stil looking for but have not found yet are a wiring diagram for my car. I found tons of info on pre 99 civics but have not found one specific to my model yet, anyone have one? Also is there any reason I should solder the stock wires to the harness or am I ok with the plastic/metal connectors that you clamp tight? Lastly to install the new deck it looks like I will have to remove my whole dash, is this true? Is there a better way? Thanks for any help Ryan

Cant say I know for sure if it'll affect your car if you install a new deck, but i'll tell you the best things to do if you can install it.
-If so, use a wiring harness that connects to the stock harness (as to not void warranty, and make it a hassle for whoever might own ur car someday) -Try to solder when possible (if you know how), but crimp connectors work fine. Try to get marine butt connectors, which wont fall off from any sort of sudden jolt or vibration -From what I've seen, you will need to remove most of your dash to properly install your cd player -Last, always disconnect your battery before installing. Or else face the consequences of SRS light,or burnt out fuses

Re: Installing deck 99 civic - basic questions
I had to repair a '02 that someone pryed out the whole heat/ac cluster with something big. They screwed up the whole dash let alone they took all the heater controls, radio, and most of the trim bezel. They even took what looked like bolt cutters and COMPLETEY cut the whole harness for EVERYTHING that connected to the bezel. So, I had to clean up all the wiring and install new plugs to everything. I actually got all the wires right the first time. The dealer opted for a Pioneer DEH-p6500 since it was much cheaper than OEM. Even though I really didn't have to, I used an aftermarket harness adaptor. It makes things much nicer for the owner incase they have to replace a radio again.

Oh, everything that I saw worked as normal with the new radio. I think only the Accord has screwy things happen when you replace the radio without the proper adaptors.

Re: Installing deck 99 civic - basic questions
They did rip up teh whole dash which I had replaced with new climate controls ect. The radio I bought came with a harness so I am OK in that department, thank you
