All those rear wings and spoilers

You see them more and more on cars these days. What good are rear spoilers on a normal car driven less than 75 MPH besides a place to put fancy center stop lights? I can see where race cars benefit from either better aerodynamics at 150-200 MPH (e.g. NASCAR). But for most people besides looking like you're a racer (or a wannabe) don't they just add cost, get in the way, and provide more options for the car makers to profit from?
Here are some ideas about rear wings and spoilers
Use them to dry dry your wet socks on the way to somewhere
Keep the purse you forgot on the rear deck from sliding off
Hides the view from the rear so when your wife following you won't see your girl friend.
On some cars you may find extra room for placing additional bumber stickers.
Anyone got any other thoughts?

pretty funny excuses you found to have a big spoiler, but if you search on here there was a thread that i know of that answered your questions about how spoilers help or don't help.

Basically the sopilers have no positive effect on a daily driven car that does not exceed 120+ and even then it does not have postive effects unless it is shaped right and adjusted correctly. Basically they are ugly and a waste of money.

And then there's the issue of washing the car. If you do it by hand you'll have more crevices to worry about. If you go to the car wash, it might get broken off or keep the underlying parts from being washed - so you may as well wash it yourself.
Yep---- most of 'em are ugly too.
