hey eveyone,, I recently purchased an 88 Nissan 300ZX Turbo off Of E-Bay.. this is my third car off there,,, the other two were in awesome shape and were killer deals... Picked it up for $1000 Canadian pessos, or about 12 bucks american,, lol.. jk,,, but I paid $1000 bucks candian. The Body needs a fair bit of work, but I have done alot of body work,,, I am only 21 but I enjoy putting in the time fixxing up cars,,, thats half hte fun to me when I buy a new car.
anyway I just got home with her,,, 5 am,, so needless to say I have yet to take an indepth look @ her mechanically. I am wondering if anyone knows any common areas / parts / things I should check over or watch out for. The car is Turbo and has the T-Roof,,, the CAr is an auto,, but this is a lack of options rather then a choice. I will be converting to 5 or 6 speed later and most likely converting her to a right hand drive model @ the same time. anyway I just wanted to say hey to eveyone out htere,,, this site seems AWESOME,, is some / mild swearing acceptable?? I ask cause I am bad for that.. lol.... so I wanna kno before I get in crap... one thing I did notice but have yet to get a chance to check is that I drive hte car 500 Km to get home,, or about 300 miles and when I was on the home stretch I let the car out for a run,, I do not know how fast I was going as to the fact I blew a fuse and lost my gauges on the way home,, but with breaks that need work and a very worn set of front shocks / struts odds are it wasnt hte safest but it was fun but once I pulled in my driveway she was pissin out coolant in steam form,, I prayed i didnt crack the block,, I will have to check that after I sleep and get up,,, hopefully a line went or somethin. so anythings that I should check over specific to this / these cars would be greatly appreciated. are there any specific codes for my car / engine I should kno? I really want ot learn more about the Z's and imports,,,, I use to be hard core into muscle cars,, I still love hte classics,, but they arnt to friendly on my wallet for trips or my health in the winter,, lol.. also I have a habbit of putting hte key to the on position for a few seconds to let the electronics kick in and hte fuel pump go before starting any car,,, a habbit i guess I developed... anyway this 88 nissan 300zx i do this,, then turn the key and alsmots and soon as I turn the key boom she starts,,,, I cannot state how unbelieveably quick she starts,,, it takes litterally less then half a second.. I cannot describe it other then to say I have delt with alot of different cars and engines in my 21 years so far and this is the most egar to start out of anything I have seen, used or heard of... is this good? bad? or ??? I appologize for writing a novel and hope there is no size limit for postings for fear that I will be banned before I start,, lol.... I will keep other postings / reply's far shorter,,, Thanks again... Matty-D

Re: newbie
Welcome to AF, buddy... sorry to hear about the steam! I have had a similar problem on my Z32 recently. Check your heater lines... they may have busted. As for checking out specifics... CHECK everything!!! Hoses, boots, springs, brakes, Alt., Timing Belt!!! These things go out easily on a newly bought used Z! Good luck and welcome to the Z family... we'll be around for any problems.
