Exhaust

I wanna apologize if this has been over before. But I own a 2001 Monte Carlo SS [3.8L] I'm bout to redo my exhaust and have a quick question. I'm uping from the 2'' pipe to 2.5'' all the way back with all the bends taken out and a cut out put in.
I always liked the way the Supra sounded so mean. Since the sizes of the engines arent TO far different I'm trying to find out the kind of exhaust you all put on your cars so mine can sound just as mean.
Also, I know yours are a I6 while mine is a V6 so are they going to sound much different? Any brand of muffler or whatever yall use will be fine!!

Thanks!

Re: Exhaust

it's not the muffler that makes the car sound like that, out of all of the different exhaust I've heard on cars, I've never heard anything quite like the supra. plus it also depends on if you have a turbo or not which also plays a big factor in it.

Re: Exhaust

The size of the pipe, the thickness, the length of the exhaust system, head design, valves, if you plan on putting in a H-pipe of X-pipe, plus the Y-pipe you'll need, the muffler obviously (most use a N1 or N1 knockoff, otheres being HKS draggers and anything else for sale), and of coarse the turbo like flyinMKIV said. Everything in the exhaust stream contributes to the exhaust note. The turbo acts like a muffler, running open exhaust on a 7m-gte vs. a 7m-ge is a very different sound, much much louder on a n/a. Most turbo owners run a 3-4" turbo back exhaust (WOTM even has a 5" out now), n/a Supra's need a 2.5-2.75" maybe slightly more depending on what mods you have.
