Noisy transmission, humming noises, NOT Trans

Though I'd post this new thread as the old one is quite old. Anyway, what I thought was trans noises while shifting turned out to be (with the aid of a sharp shop foreman who rode with me), of all things the damn alternator! He held a screwdriver on it and had me feel the vibrations coming out of it and it felt like grinding ball bearings! Had it replaced yesterday and the noises are gone so this case is closed. By the way it cost $333 which will be reimbursed to me by my extended warranty outfit Daimler-Chrysler. Sorry to have misled any forum guys with my missed diagnosis but maybe it will help steer anyone else who goes thru the same scenario. Happy motoring to all!
