Town and Country power door issues? Help

Hi-

I am new here so I must take the time to say hello.. HI... My wife and I just bought a 2001 Town and Country LXI model. It was a steal, we purchased this van with only 18000 miles on it.. So we were able to get this van roughly $13,000 less than a new one, plus only paid 2000 less than book value. SO I think we got a great deal.. We ran a carfax and the dealer was truthfull. It was a local trade by an older couple whom bought it as a left over in 2002 and the van was only driven 8000 miles a year.. The van is imaculate... We love it, except for one issue!!!! Both the side power sliding power doors seem to never close corectly...

They open fine when we either hit the button on the key fob or the interior switches... But sometimes when they close, they get about 2 inches to closing then re-open. Almost as if they are blocked? They can do it 5 cycles before they actually close? What could this be? There is nothing in their way that could be blocking them? Could it be a switch or an adjustment needed? I had the van to the Dodge dealer we bought it from and they had it 1 entire day. They claimed they tried it all day long and they operated fine? We then picked it up and sure enough that next morning. Both sides, would not close on first try???

What should I do? The service manager thinks I am a totall bafoon?

Also, can these doors be opened with out using the power option? Manually? The dealer says NO.. We should always open them using the power option? Will it damage anything by opening them manually? I Can't feel any resistance to feel not? Like me manually opening them against a motor or such causing me to damgage them?? The rear lift gate is operating corectly. Just the two side sliding doors are acting up...

I have a year left on the bumper to bumper and want to get to the bottom of this ASAP so I don't have to shell out thousands of dollars for new motors and such?

Can anyone offer me some assistance? I appreciate it....

Have a happy Easter...

I would bring it back to the dealer and have either the service writer or the mechanic that checked watch as you open and close them.

take it to your dealer, ask them to check the service bulletin for that model van, there should be a bulletin addressing your problem.

The metal that the rubber gasket fits on is too high and needs to be shaved down, your door is getting caught on the gasket and the safety switch is opening the door to keep from hurting whatever it has hit.
This information was given to me by my service tech at my local dealer when our doors were giving the same problem....our biggest problem is the drivers sliding door wont shut manually, and they cant fix it.... and the little bumpers at the top of the door keep falling out, but thats ok...
