ok i know this might be a stupid question, but what is the diffences between lowering springs and coilovers and which are more better??

coilovers have adjustable ride heights and sometimes adjustable stiffness settings on the struts.

^ depends what you are going for but I'd say yes. I'm getting myself a set of D2 coilovers. Was going to get myself some lowering springs but why not coilovers, they are adjustable. The ride is rougher though

oh ok yea cause my car the previous owner cut the springs to lower it the springs are stock and the strut got messed up the front ones so i want to get either coilovers or just lowering springs but im limited on cash so which are cheaper also i want to get all four strut so which are better (remember im limited on cash) cause i might have to pay financial aid.

when u take a standard length of spring already built for something, like a stock spring, and then u cut it you GREATLY enhance the spring rates. I forgot exactly the conversion but even cutting off like half an inch off the spring will raise the spring rate by A LOT! This wears out your stock struts in a very short while. If your going to have stiff spring rates you need to have a very stiff damper.

I don't really think cut springs are all that bad like 99% of people think. People just use them wrong. They would be great if you really put some thought into it, you could cut off an exact amount and get the desired spring rate and/or heigth you want. Just can't use shitty weak stock dampers. Thats why u see cars with cut springs bouncing all over the place, the morons cut like 2" or more off and probably end up with a 800-1000lb rate spring or more and then put the weak, usually worn out as well, stock struts back on....... of course it won't work good.

sleeved coilovers with good shocks are good b/c u can cahange ur ride height

springs are also good with good shocks...but i've heard some have a tendance to sag over time


full coilovers, IMO, are the best b/c u get the shock and springs mounted together....
ex. Tein SS coilovers

I dunno im not a big fan of sleeve overs.

Coils are the best route if you have the money (actually Tein makes a set now for the same cost as springs and shocks 750$ ) But Ive heard great things about the Flex as a good street coilover.

huh nevermind...u haven't been a member here that long

i know AF was offering a group buy on Tein stuff and that those who didn't wanna be part of it still got 10 or 20% off...not sure of which one it was....but if ur going for the full coilover set i'd see if u can still get that discount for being an AF member

Anyways I got myself a set of D2 coilovers, only 36-way dampening coils in the world. Got em for only $720 w/ pillowmounts. Can't wait to put that sucker in!!! getting a 7/5 springrate for daily drivin. Coils will be a rough ride though, so if you think stock is already rough, don't get coilovers.

one good thing about the Tein's coilovers are their EDFC's.....i'm sure it makes adjusting ur ride real easy....is there another company that offer something like that?

I very much recommend the Tein Flex system if you have the $, if so get the electronic damper force controller with it!!! if not, i would just get the Tein S-tech springs over any adjustable springs out there. When i think coilovers i think of a fully adjustable shock/spring or strut/spring combo, anything else i feel is just an adjustable spring, like my 91 civic hatch has grond control coilovers, but i still don't consider them coilovers just adj. springs. 1 of my 1992 240s has the Tein Flex system with EDFC, now those are coilovers, like the D1s, but if you can't afford true coilovers i recommend just getting some good springs, Tein Stech, around $130, i have them on my other 1992 240, both cars have the VLSD and the S-tech don't compare to the Flex system but i believe that no adj. spring compares to the S-techs, and a hand full of other springs match them! just my opinion
