Question I'm not so smart after all

Ok, when it comes to systems i can tell u anything u want about any system and any sub you ever heard of. I know everything about RMS and peak and about getting the right amp for the subs and all that. BUt the problem is i just got my first car and am first now getting the money for a system. I got my eye on some comp vrs but heres the dillema... I have no physical experience with subs or systems in general. Everything i know comes from reading stuff and magazines and such. I have no idea how to physically hook up a system. Like what kinda wires are needed and how the wires get through the terminal on the box into the subs and all that. So if any one could help me i wanna get two dvc 4 ohm subwoofers and wire them for 1 ohm. Or maybe run each on its own channel to a amp, because i can get a deal on a amp. Any help would be great on the wires to use, how the terminal works, and the most confusion is what kind of ends on the wires are like if its just a wire with a screw that tightes on it or if u need one of those plugs. Any help would be SOOO great. Thanks.

ANything at all that has the slightest chance of helping would be sooo appreciated.

Re: I'm not so smart after all

i'm kinda shocked that you being so 'educated' from reading magazines etc, that you wouldn't know the basics needed to wire up a system?? i'm no expert myself(by far hahha) but i did wire up my system, and my friends system in our cars..
wiring goes like this:
4g off red term on battery, runs to fuse holder, other end of fuse holder is an 8g wire that runs all the way to the amp(this is the power for the amp) in the fuse holder which is holding these wires you will install a fuse.. but you install the fuse LAST. so next you will have 2 rca cables that you will plug into the pre-outs on the back of your head unit.. these then run back to the amp as well. along with these is the remote wire. this gets connected to the headunit and run back to the amp. then the only wires left are wires to run to your sub(s). i think that pretty much sums it all up? oh and then after everything is connected you stick in the fuse in that fuse holder, turn on the music and cross your fingers.

oh shit i have returned...
Well now, all thought no process that happens alot. No big deal..
Here goes don't listen to who is above me you should never run 4awg wire to a fusholder with 8awg coming out unless you have two runs of it. Think of it as what goes in must come out. So if you have 4 gauge in u have to have 4 gauge out, this is also the way when hooking up amps never run 4 gauge into power then a smaller gauge out for ground. This will cause noise and also light dim. Oldschoolers always thought current came in through the (+) terminal this is also false. Newschoolers such as myself have learned that it's actually the opposite current flows through ground and back to the battery to the positive terminal.. Pay no mind to that last paragraph it's just early in the morn and my train of thought is being broken by my son. But anyhoo back to the task at hand i read in your post that you want to wire two comp vrs to one ohm this is not a difficult task wire both voicecoils in parallel on both subs which will bring each daul 4 ohm sub down to 2 ohms then wire both subs in parallel which will half it again and give you one ohm.
Ok here are two dvc subs wired in parallel if they were dual 4 ohm they are now at 2 ohms per sub if they were dual 2 ohm subs they would be one ohm per sub now. Wiring in parallel usually halves the impedence.
wiring dual voicoil subs in parallel is easy just wire one vc's + to the other vc's + and the same for the negatives. Make sure your amp can handle this if it is a two channel it probably cannot. When you read the specs on the amp it should say stable to __ ohms bridged and __ ohms stereo. These are the numbers you are trying to hit. Don't think you can cheat either this will only cause smoke and distress. Ok getting back to the diagram as the example. Two comp vrs hhmm most amps that would have the right RMS power wouldn't be stable to one ohm. Like say the Kicker 600.1 it's only stable to 2 ohms mono. which would mean you need two dual 2ohm compvrs wired in series. Which there are better drawing of wiring up the coils in the owners manual of the subs. But two dual 2ohm subs wired series each sub is at 4ohms wire the box in parallel and you would get a 2 ohm load mmmperfect for the 600.1 which this is a nice combo i have set it up multiple times for customers. hhmm while i was writing this message i lost train of thought a few times so if this is nothing but confusing i'm sorry.... peace pot microdot ps if i get real bored i may start using my digicam and doing pictorials...

k thanks guys, but what i really need is for someone to explain the kind of wires used. I understand gauge of wires and how to hook up a amp, but what i really need is in detail (what kind of wires, terminals, andands on the wires) how to hook up the subs from the amp.

Sorry for not explainin my self good enough

brands well if it's power wire i prefer stinger brand. But really it doesn't matter that much cuz in power wire all it does is act as a roadway for current aslong as it has a large enough road it will travel. Just use car audio not welding wire it needs to be multistranded. Here is a little chart 500watts and below 8awg 500-1200watts 4awg above that 1/0awg. Usually if you go to a car audio shop or best buy/circuit they sell install kits that come with all wire needed to install an amplifier. They also come with terminal connections aswell. I know stinger's kits are 8awg model # Swk8rs and for 4 gauge model# swkh4 this kit does not include rca's though so grab a set if you don't have any. I did explain how to wire from the amp to the sub. Type of wire used for speaker connections is just speaker wire 14awg is the use all since it's AC current it really doesn't transport any current it merely bounces back and forth inside the wire it doesn't need to be super thick.
