1991 s10 tranny drops out of gear after 2nd
hey, ran a search but couldnt find anything of much help.
I've got a 1991 S10 4.3L Blazer and the other day I went to accelerate from a stop after getting off the freeway and after second gear I heard a crack or snap and from there it refused to shift into higher gears, I had to drive it home in second. It's an automatic transmission, and when I put it into drive it does fine until it tries to hit third gear and then it drops into neutral. soo, I dont know much about trannys at all and I'm just wondering if this is going to cost me a new tranny, or if it might be a smaller problem? I checked the fluid and it was indeed low, I had to add quite alot... so this is all my fault, but now its at proper level but still no change. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated ![]() Thanks! |

Its gonna need rebuilt. 3/4 clutch pack at the very least is gonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnne. Might have even broke the shell, but I think you get no gears when that happens

hey -
hate to second the motion, but... yeah, your trans is gone. same thing happened to mine. exactly... 3/4 use the same bands (i think) so they go out together... anyway, my fix was to junk my truck and buy another (it had other issues as well). got a 93 with 82K for 1700, about the cost of fixing my tranny. and now i have a parts car for all the little stuff i need to do to the other one... anyway, sorry for the bad news. good luck...
