black smoke

I have a 1992 maxima gxe .The car had a rod nock but the exhaust was clean the engine was recently rebuilt and now when I start it I get black smoke and the smoke progressively gets worse untill it fouls out the plugs. a machanic put it on a computer and said i had a trouble code #13 which came from the coolant temperature sensor and so he bypassed it but it still did not fix the problem. the computer says the amount of impulses from the injectors are double the amount than they should be and this is the main cause of my black smoke. what do I need to do to get rid of this trouble code #13 and tone the injectors down to normal impulse speed. Should I go and by a new E.C.U. ?

The first thing I did today was change the O2 sensor, oil,oil filter, and disconnect the exhaust from the converter. I have managed to eliminate the trouble code #13 and am left with a code #55 (meaning everything OK"). I am still running rich, so rich I turn my oil to gas in a matter of minutes and foul all the plugswhile having thick black smokey exhaust. I am on my way to changing every dambed part in the car unless someone can stop me with some helpful information.

Re: black smoke

If I pull the vacuum line off the rear passenger side of the top of the fuel injection plenum the black smoke will go away as if the car is starving for oxygen. Also I noticed that a majority off the intake air at an idle enters threw the small air line in the plastic air duct that connects to the mass air flow. I will try changing the fuel pressure regulator next just to see what happens. the vacuum line going to it was severed ,but I fixed it and still no change in air/fuel mixture.

If you really need help you can go to www.maxima.org There is a forum for just 3rd Gen. Maximas. Maybe they can help. Good luck with your problem.
