Roadtrip pics are in...56K beware

Ok went for a road trip today, I decided to head up towards payson and take SR88 to Rosevelt lake. Then take old SR88 back home through Apache. It was about 153 miles round trip and took me from 11:00 AM to 3:45 to complete.

Here are the pics.

This was the view heading north on SR87, and pretty much the beginning of the trip.

Again still on 87 coming up on Four Peaks mountain.

Traffic was light so I decided to step on the gas a bit and see what she'd do. Unfortunately I got nervous and backed out before it hit 110. Man what a rush of adrenaline though.

Good thing I slowed down, my turn is coming up here anyway.

Ok my first stop, finally we get a view of the lake, these look so much better at 1600 but I sized them all down to 800 to help out the dial up users.

Cool Bridge that goes over the lake and by the damn area.

Couldn't resist getting a few pics of the Shortbus while out.

Notice the the license tag says SH4TBUS

Awesome view of the lake after crossing the blue bridge, I noticed the lake is really low right now, there hasn't been much rain up here lately.

Just the damn dam from behind.

This was the old power house or water plant. Not really sure there was no access to get any closer to it.

Another dam picture but from the front this time.

Ok not going home the same way, this is the old road that is still highly traveled, but its rough as hell, narrow so that at times there is only enough room for one car on the road, and all the bridges are single lane. Did I mention that the road is bumpy as hell.

Very few guardrails. Long ways down into the basin.

Just one of the many single lane bridges I mentioned above.

Around this corner there is a cave but unfortunately it was so crowded I did not stop for pictures or exploring. Maybe next time.

A view from the top.

This picture does no justice of just how far it is down to where that rusted beat up car is laying. That must have been some ride. I couldn't get close enough to see what type of car it was, but I assume it has been there a very long time.

I felt a little ghey taking this picture but everyone else was so I said why not. Awww pretty flowers

There is a lizard monster in this pic, he was closer but at the last moment the little fucker took off running.

Yeah.., me... what the hell.

Ahhh finally home where there is plenty of room to manuver around.

Hope you liked them I may do a ghost town run or an old mining town next time and see what kind of cool stuff I can find. Maybe some mine shafts or old equipment bone yards.

I definately want to head to Tucson and check out the old military aircraft decomission yard.

John

No your thinking of Hoover dam outside of Boulder City near Vegas.

This one is the Salt River Northwest of Phoneix.

Yeah gas prices are a bitch right now, but hell if I would have stayed home I would have spent 20 on beer and smokes and sat around watching tv and ordering pizza @ 20 bucks. It took a quarter of a tank for the road trip but thats still less then staying home drinking and smoking.

BTW next time you go to havasu give me a shout maybe some of the Western AF'ers can meet up there and have some fun. I'm down for it.

Absolutely GORGEOUS pics both of the scenery and the Shortbus. Now I realize the namesake. That made my day.

Re: Roadtrip pics are in...56K beware

Nice pics. Those are some of the few places in AZ I haven't explored yet.

You NEED to check out Seven Falls in Tucson. It's a two-hour hike to get to the falls area, but it's well worth it.

Let me know when you might be taking one of these trips again, me and my Rodeo might just tag along. I also know another AF member that has a 'vert Eclipse turbo. That'll be good for a roadtrip.
