Angry Civic Died On Me!

OK, so I was headed home from school and I make it about 20 mins down the road and my CD player goes out. It will still take and spit out CDs, and the buttons are illuminated, but the screen is out and it won't play. I thinking, great....now i have to get that checked out. Then I noticed my clock was out and the lights were all dimmed. So I pull it over to a gas station and just as I pulled the steering wheel locks up and it dies. Samething happened about 2 years ago and I had to get a new alternator, a used one though. Anyone have any idea on what it might be?

Maybe it's ur alternator? LOL....
I'm guessing that's what it is. Can you jumpstart or popstart it?

Correction... never buy USED.... remanufactured alternators and various other car parts are usually BETTER than they were originally straight from factory, because on top of fixing whatever's wrong with them that's causing your problem, they also get other things like manufacturers defects that aren't found because of the automated nature of the construction of these parts.
Remanufactured parts, you've got an actual human there testing, and retesting and fixing all the problems.
Most remanufactured parts come with a life time warrenty too... new parts only come with a 1 year warrenty (most of the time).

Re: Civic Died On Me!

Your battery should have about 12 Volts in it when it's sitting...and you should pull 14 V or so when the car's running if the alternator is working....I had that happen too...but the alternator shorted out on my spontaneously...the car had been sitting a week...I happened to be outside when it started to smoke...otherwise I wouldn't have the car....

Re: Civic Died On Me!

May be a good time to clean all the connectors on the battery...the leads, check to make sure the ground isn't corroded....maybe replace the cables if they are....I know my Honda is really bad for turning the battery leads to green powder

well i'm speaking from past experiance, our re-man parts at canadian tire have a 1 yr warranty and usually a week later the ppl come back complaining and get the 5 year warranty cuz the re-mans are shit, it might be the company that makes them tho, not sure

Alternator went out on my moms truck at about 140k miles... remanufactured alt. went back in... truck is rapidly approaching the 370k mile marker with no foreseen problems
remanufatured is ok in my books
maybe it is just the company that's doing shitty work on yalls...
