Alclad II | Where to purchase?

I have really been looking into buying some Alclad II for my Hot Rod project instead of that chrome foil POS. From what I hear and understand, this stuff is really durable and really high quality. I have looked through HLJ for it, and towerhobbies but I cant find it. How much does it cost for a bottle? Can I purchase some at my LHS?

BTW: If you know of any more online hobby shops besides HLJ and Tower hobbies can you please post some links?

I think the Model Car Garage handles Alclad, MCW is listed as a dealer, and in Atlanta I've seen it at AAA Hobbies up in Marietta. If you've been to IPMS Atlanta, all those guys shop at AAA, it's more plane-oriented. Hobbytown USA may have it as well.

They have a website w/dealer information:
Alclad II

When Im purchasing the rims to modify for my Hot Rod at Hobbytown I'll check. I'd really like to go to AAA Hobbies though, coz at Hobbytown the stuff is such a rip off, not to mention a lot of the guys at the Hobbytown up in Kennesaw are jackasses.

Thanks for the info!!!

Great! I'll look them up on the net to see exactly where it is. Do you know how much it usually costs for a bottle of it?

AAA is just a few blocks east of the Big Chicken. Easy to combine a trip there w/Hobbytown Kennesaw. Hobbytown Gwinnett might have Alclad as well. Bottles are about $8 each. If you're an IPMS member you get a 10% discount. Make sure you get black enamel as a base coat for the chrome...Model Master classic black, or Boyd's, or Testors. Don't go w/Tamiya or Testors Acryl.

Thanks for the Directions.

Black enamel? No black Acrylic? I'll grab some Model Master black enamel, their product are pretty nice and are easy to spray.

Wet or dry? I sprayed the chrome over dry TS black, it looked great but rubbed off easily. You can't touch it or it just comes right off.

Spraying the chrome over fresh, wet Testors worked fine...and it doesn't come off on your fingers. The chrome needs to "bite" into something softer than dried lacquer. Enamel is much softer. Humbrol gloss black is a good choice as well.

I spray it on over wet TS black, in handling the parts during assembly I didn't notice any rubbing off. I think on my GT3 I used black enamel underneath, the result seemed to be equal to spraying over TS.

I haven't experimented other than that so far, but I will use it on the bumpers on the Lusso and would like it to be durable for sure.

Good to know it will work over TS, just make sure it's still wet! It sure doesn't work over TS that's dried. Testors black enamel never dries, that's why it works!

Thanks for input. I think I will use some Model Master enamel. Their paint is durable and easily airbrushed.
