92 K2500 transmission?
Where can I find a list of transmission names (ie 4L60E) that were available with a 1992 K2500 extended cab 5.7L truck? I want to know what I got and how much torque it will hold.

Re: 92 K2500 transmission?
A 92 would most likely be a 4L80E, would it not? Check the SPID codes MT1 is the 4L80E and MD9 is the 4L60E.

Re: 92 K2500 transmission?
if all else fails, look at your yoke on the transmission. the 4l80 is a modernized version of the turbo 400 (uses some 70% of the same internals surprisingly) - and is the only other automatic transmission that has the same size yoke as the turbo 400 (all other trannys, turbo 700, 350, 4l60, 200, etc - use the much smaller size yoke on the driveline). if you don't know by looking which yoke you've got, post here again, and i'll go out and measure the diameter of one so you can check for reference. if it is the bigger yoke you have, then there's no question - it would have to be the 4l80 -- if you have the smaller yoke, but like 13 wires going to the tranny and no cables, then it's a 4l60

Re: 92 K2500 transmission?
Superchuckles, dimensions would be great. I'll check the wires/cables tomorrow. Otherwise, I found a site....http://nastyz28.com/sbchevy... that has a lot of RPO numbers listed. I looked up the numbers in my glove box and it says I have a THM 700 R4 (RPO#MD8). The RPO number was partially rubbed off, so I could be mistaken. Would the yoke measurement identify the 700R4?

Re: 92 K2500 transmission?
The yoke dimension is 3.92" across the flats, 1.89" diameter of the shaft. This is on the yoke coming out of the transmission. Also, it has a metal linkage, a cable and a wire harness. The RPO# MD8 is stamped on the passenger side and there is a tag that identifies it as a hydromatic on the driver's side. I believe it is a 700R4.
