1999 Grand AM Power Window, SOS!

I own a 1999 Grand Am, yesterday the driver side power window stopped functioning completely, (no up or down..)
Has any one trouble shot one before or had one repaired, I pulled the switch assy out of the door, and it makes an audible clicking as if there is power (electricity) being bridged when the switch is mashed. I have seen on one thread a man had mentioned a regulator I am not sure what that is in regard to the power window.
I priced the motors the left side appears to be more than the right $80.. $50 Right side. I know there is a wealth of knowledge on the beloved Pontiac out there any advice will be welcome..

Might want to make sure your switch is working before spending money on motors and installation.

Cool

I also own a '99 Grand AM. The driver's side electric window switch on it acts up at times, but hasn't gone completely out yet. If you are hearing a clicking, it could be just the abrasion inside... I would suggest detaching the switch, then try operating it to hear if the clicking still occurs. Sounds like the motor is froze up, maybe it was over operated. Probably a regular Pontiac problem, but that is what warantees are for right. There is a site that I will recommend, it has parts and listings for every vehicle out there! The site is... www.rockauto.com ...don't look for aftermarkets there though. Some of the cheapest prices I've been able to find on parts. If you know how to install them, you have it made!

Done deal

I put my ride in the shop and $150. dollars later my driver's side window works again. The little window electric motor was shot. My mechanic said that he smacked it with a hammer and it made one final effort to turn and then seized again, it was pronounced dead yesterday morning around 10 am, The new motor works great I am afraid to stick my hand or arm through the window with all the torques of that new motor might cut it off.
Now I know why I am found of cars without power windows, they are getting hard to find though.

my driver side window stopped working also, but the track fell in and wouldn't come back up. it was the regulator. the cheapest one i could find was on ebay. good luck with the problem.
