HELP!!

Can someone help me with a CV Joint problem? I have noticed that my left front wheel seems like it is wobbling. I think it is the CV joint. When I went to drive it to the shop, it started making a grinding sound. I stopped moving but the sound continued. I shut the engine off. Started the engine again and it sounded good while I was in PARK, but as soon as I put it in gear, it started with the nastiest gringing noise. Does the CV joints turn even though the car is not moving?

Thanks in advanced.

Joe

Re: 1990 plymouth voyager transmission

A broken cv joint can also do it, but it should be a VERY rough grind.

To clear something up, the CV joint does NOT move unles the car is in motion.

Maybe I've just had the pleasure of having kids who could do the impossible, but on at least 2 occassions they broke a cv joint (inner, if I recall correctly) so that part of the joint would move, making one heck of a racket, while the car was stationary on a Chrysler fwd. This was before I was smart enough to change the entire axle, and I did disassemble and reassemble the joint. Needless to say, it was a messy job, complicated by the foot of snow on the ground, streetside, where I performed the task. Fortunately, the kid got the car off the road directly across the street from my favorite parts supplier on a saturday night, and the place was open sunday mornings at the time and had the joint in stock. Impossible, you think? Guess again.

Wow!

I've never heard of that before. Most of the time when you blow out a CV joint like that they tend to just grenade themselves.
