Chrysler used only 3 gear trannys to under cut other compact competitors on price (no overdrive). The 3 speed tranny in Neons is a derivative of the famously strong 727 torque flight version used in 1960's - 1970's Mopar muscle cars (ex. Road Runners & Cudas). The 3rd gear is pretty good in that is keeps your RPM's high and close to the HP/Torque sweet spot on the highway (good for passing). I suggest using synthetic motor oil due to the high rpm's.

Gear Ratios
1st 2.69
2nd 1.55
3rd 1.00
