94 Pathfinder Problems

I recently began experiencing problems with my 94 Pathfinder. The engine idles extremely rough. Idling anywhere between 1500 rpms and sometimes dropping all the way to 0 and dying. The engine also seems to be running rich with thick black exhaust and a gasoline smell. The check engine light isn't on. I may end up having to get a diagnostic but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

Also, a much smaller problem...sometimes when I shut my drivers side door the locks automatically lock. Doesn't seem to happen at any specific time or when I shut the door hard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

psycho door locks

I seem to be having a similar problem with my 95 pathfinder's power locks. They love to spontaneously lock and/or unlock themselves at random times. This includes while driving or parked. I have left it running and gone into a convenience store only to come out and find it locked and running! Or I will park in a bad neighborhood, lock it, and then as I'm walking away I hear the 'thunk' as it unlocks itself. Maybe it just hates me and wants to get stolen?
Opinions on this so far have ranged from the dealership thinking it is caused by a faulty computer/alarm (or whatever the black box under the passenger seat is), to my thinking that it might just be a malfunctioning switch inside the driver's door. The dealer wanted to charge an obscene amount of money to replace the computer, so I'm just going to put up with it and carry an extra key until the weather warms up enough to tear the door apart....

Good luck figuring it out - I'll check back, so please leave a post here if you manage to fix it!

Mike

Re: 94 Pathfinder Problems

sounds like you need to have your fuel pressure
tested to see if the the fuel regulator is bad.

Check to see is you door handle is not lifted when you close the door...That is what locked mr 94 path.....The handle might be stuck when you open the door and stay lifted.
