....Some few Newbie questions....

Hello,Im a newbie here and Im a LUDE lover but unfortunately i dont have one yet, dont have a car yet, because im still young but might have one soon. So im posting this thread to learn a couple a things, I read Aces' thread and learned a couple good things, but still have some more questions... okay here it goes...
1) What is this "dyno" you guys are talking about ???
2) Im looking to buy a 92-96 VTEC or SI, and if I buy the Jackson surbocharger or any kind of turbocharger or nitrous, would a normal car garage place be able to install it all for me and do all the compression stuff?
3) I saw an add about a lude for sale and it has "J-Spec (lsd tranny) motor and tranny" what is this??? is it good??? bad??? please explain..
4) Is a "stainless steel header, stainless high flow cat, and full stainless cat" good??? bad??? please explain....
5) I havent found anything about nitrous for ludes here.. can anyone talk about it here?? Would it be good for the car i want to buy???
6) If I want to get turbo, do i raise or lower my compression on a VTEC or SI?? how do i do that?? If i get nitrous, what do i do then???
7) What is this thing "resleeving" you guys talk about??????
thanks to all who will give their time to answer my questions and teach me some stuff, I really look forward to understanding everythin I need to know and makin my lude the sickest there is... thanks.

Re: ....Some few Newbie questions....

1) A dyno is used to measure a car's horsepower. That's as simple as I can describe it.

2) A lot of "garages" won't touch the stuff, usually you will have to find a performance shop to do it.

3) J-spec (JDM) is the original Japanese made and run motor. Simply put, J-spec or JDM is better than their american brothers.

4) Stainless is the type of metal they are made out of. This metal won't rust or corrode like most other exhaust parts.

5) Find a Lude specific kit, which there aren't too many. Holley's NOS brand makes one. Most of the time the nitrous oxide kits are universal, and have detailed instructions, but not prelude specific. Someone in this forum has to have info on it, they will reply eventually.

Re: ....Some few Newbie questions....

okay thanks. for your answer to #4 ... what I meant to ask was, is that good for my car and its power, because Aces said that i would have to buy a 'ceramic' header. Would that stainless everything be good??? thanks...

Re: ....Some few Newbie questions....

1) What is this "dyno" you guys are talking about ???
-answered.

2) Im looking to buy a 92-96 VTEC or SI, and if I buy the Jackson surbocharger or any kind of turbocharger or nitrous, would a normal car garage place be able to install it all for me and do all the compression stuff?
- jackson racing doesn't make a kit for the 4th gen. i wouldn't take it to just any normal garage. try to find a shop that specializes in the type of work you want done.

3) I saw an add about a lude for sale and it has "J-Spec (lsd tranny) motor and tranny" what is this??? is it good??? bad??? please explain..
-i wouldn't assume JDM is better just coz it's JDM, i HATE that logic. but yeah, it's the parts the japanese counterparts use made for the japanese domestic market (JDM). USDM usually requires toned down verisons to meet emissions standards and other crap standards of the US

4) Is a "stainless steel header, stainless high flow cat, and full stainless cat" good??? bad??? please explain....
- reason Aces said look for ceramic header is because it dissipates heat better. generally you want your engine to run cool. but keep in mind, ceramic headers may crack and may turn a yellowish color after a while. stainless steel is more durable. lasts longer and stronger.

5) I havent found anything about nitrous for ludes here.. can anyone talk about it here?? Would it be good for the car i want to buy???
- answered. not a big fan of power from a bottle so don't have much info on it for you. good bang for the buck, but improper use can ruin a motor faster than a poorly tuned turbocharged car. so be smart about nitrous use.

6) If I want to get turbo, do i raise or lower my compression on a VTEC or SI?? how do i do that?? If i get nitrous, what do i do then???
- LOWER LOWER LOWER if you're charging the air (turbo or supercharger). you can do that by installing lower compression pistons or increasing your displacement (you can bore the cylinder out, get a thicker head gasket, etc). nitrous just mess with the fuel combustability, you won't necessarily have to lower your compression.

7) What is this thing "resleeving" you guys talk about??????
- replacing the plate or coat in the cylinder in between the piston/ring and cylinder wall. along with the piston ring, creates the seal that prevents oil from getting into the combustion chamber and also prevents compression loss, helps transfer heat, protect the cylinder wall and piston, etc.

a lot of these questions can be answered by a simple search on the internet. but hope this helps some. this is quite technical for a novice as yourself. learn the basics and as you learn more, then proceed with modifying that part of your car. too many people just throw shit on their car without understanding how it works, how it shoudl work, etc. knowing this stuff PRIOR to adding to your car can be a life saver. jus some food for thought. haha. get a lude, NOW!!

Re: ....Some few Newbie questions....

A T3/T4 would work well, a Turbonetics 60-1 Hi-Fi would be a good bet. If you want to turbo it, then you will want to get all forged internals/high quality parts, not the cheap stuff. Don't go on to eBay and find a $1,000 turbo kit and expect it to have everything.

Re: ....Some few Newbie questions....

Ah, I think everyone answered the question pretty well, so I'll just add a tiny thing about the header type.

When I said 'ceramic header' I actually meant 'ceramic *coated* header'. Del is right, stainless steel is much more durable. The thin coat of ceramic on the header holds in the heat and keeps the air temperature inside your engine a few degrees cooler: helping out your air intake by letting it suck in cooler air.
