Popping noise in frontend
I have a 97 gt with 129,000 milesand it does need struts but there is a popping noise in the front end that i know well i think is not strut related.. it does not make this noise all the time just sometimes and it generally happens when i am either stopped and taking off or making a right hand turn.. and it is not the normal popping noise that a cv joint makes.. that is more like a a plucking noise... any ideas?? thanks for the info in advance

Re: Popping noise in frontend
This might not have anything to do with it since mine is older but mine had a popping in the front. One day i was going around a corner about 60mps or so and all of a sudden the front end dropped and smoke rolled. I got it stopped and pulled off of the road. Well come to find out the front left ball joint had completly dropped out of it and the tire turned sideways. From that, I would recommend having everything like that checked out.

Just for an update. I did have everything checked out my Ball joints and front end are fine. What is comes down to is that my strut mounts need to be changed.. But at 175 a peice looks like it is not gonna happen all that soon since i just put a grand into the car.. So i will have to live with the popping noise for awhile.. But thanks for the info.. I did have bad sway bars in the rear though.. got those changed and the struts change and a complete tune up.. so as of right now i am in pretty good shape.. thanks for all the info. it has been very helpful

Re: Popping noise in frontend
Try looking for bargain prices on brand new GM parts at http://www.worldparts.com and on the site do a new parts search. There is an option where you can request quotes from all over the country and many of them have continental shipping free. All you need is the car VIN and an email. You will get bids for your part from many dealers, you would really be amased on how much money you can save. nevertheless when you can replace the CVJoints, Tie Rods and related hardware. With the mileage your car has they could fail anytime soon.

Re: Popping noise in frontend
SHe said the pop was related to a worn out strut mount. If the fluid on the mount is gone is not that much to keep leaking more than a week. I bet you have problems with the rack again or an open hose
