Well i meant the volume of the sphere from which the radius is where the big bang started to the farthest galaxy that's out there.

I'm just saying, I don't think there is a limit, or "wall" that our galaxies will run into. Just beyond our known universe, there's emptiness that just goes on... forever, and our galaxies are expanding into it.

Re: What's beyond the edge of the universe?

Ok, quick question to add... Is the universe only the range of all the matter in it right now, and as things move farther away the universe "expands"... or since the space continuum is a part of the universe, doesn't the space that the objects recede into all ready exist? Or is the space continuum itself stretching/expanding? One more thought... does an infinite universe even have an edge, doesn't this go against the notion of "infinite".

So you're staying space has existed forever and will forever exist, its just that matter (galaxies, stars, planets, etc) started from the big bang and are expanding, not space itself. Interesting thought.

I guess this can lead to another interesting set of questions... what is space? Is space simply a by-product of matter, the space between object could not exist w/o the objects? It is all interesting thought.

Far Side????

Has anyone seen the Far Side where a short-statured scientist is passionately explaining his "little bang theory" to his fellow faculty members?

I know that by posting the concept that follows, I box myself into a certain shape of discussion, but I can't see a viable alternative.

Christians believe in a Triune God...Three Divine Persons in one God. If you've lost interest in this posting already, I ask you to give the Trinity a chance.

A guy by the name of Hans Urs von Balthasar suggested that time and space are "analogues" (created realities participating in eternal realities) of the distinction of Persons within the Trinity. Hans says that time and space are things God made in order to show forth the relationships within Himself.

The purpose of time is to show God's infinite patience with us. The purpose of space is to show how God makes a place for struggle and doubt. When God the Son became man, "there was no room for Him at the inn." If He is infinitely compassionate, He will surely make room within Himself for us.

Peace. Parmenides3
