~ Method to follow for clearing error codes ~

I'm wondering if anyone here knows yet how to clear or reset certain codes. For instance, I went to get my oil changed and when I got the car back, I noticed that the "Engine Oil Life" meter was still at like 5% or so. So I call the technican over and ask him why it wasn't back at 100%. He steps in teh car, does something with the ignition key and the brake pedal and voila! the Engine Oil Life meter was reset. SO I'm assuming that there are different ways to reset certain codes like the "Service Engine Soon" light and whatnot.

I know that with these new cars that are coming out, they make it so that the service light comes on automatically after a certain amount of miles even though nothing is wrong with the car just so that you have to bring it to the dealer, pay the overpriced dealer price to repair the non-damaged part or whatnot and have the code cleared. So i'm basically looking for a way around this non-warranted expense.

When I change the oil I go to oil life mode and hold the button you use to clear trip odometer readings... for 30 seconds and your back to 100% same for resetting the average mpg feature.

Ok, I have 2003 Trailblazer LS and I do not have the "Oil Life Meter" that was mentioned about the 2002 truck. I just have a pressure guage and a "Change Engine Oil" light that comes on for about 5 seconds after I start the vehicle. Any advice? Of course the vehicle said bring it buy and one of the guys could just pop out and reset it. If that's the case, I'd rather do it myself. Well actually, I'd rather have the Avalanche I really wanted (but couldn't afford at the time), but I think that has even more technology in it to bring you back to the dealer on their programmed intervals! Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

There is a way to disarm the light once your oil is changed. I had the oil changed and had the same problem, called the dealer and they told me how to do it. I believe you have to turn the key forward without starting the car and fully depress the brakes 3 times within 5 seconds of turning the key. My memory isn't what it used to be, so if this doesn't work call the local dealer service department and ask for exact steps to stop the light from coming on.

Not true..another "automotive urban legend"
There are indicators on your vehicle for service intervals..AKA..Change oil soon light..that can be reset by the consumer.
If you look in your owners manual, you will find directions on how to reset the "Change oil soon" light
Other indicators are
"Service engine soon" light...which indicates that the PCM has seen a fault with the emission systems circuits or wiring.
Or
"Service vehicle soon" light...which indicates that the is a problem with the vehicle lighting or other safety system.
All this information is listed in your owners manual. Your GM vehicle does not have or is equipped with any service light that comes on to "just get you into the dealer"
