F1 V.2
With the current boom in supercars I recn it could be time to bring the Mclaren F1 out of retirement and build a second batch.
It is often said that the F1 could never be built again but I see no fundemental problem. The F1 V.2 would use a variant of the current F1's chassis, I suspect this would have to be modiefed to meet current crash test legislation. However newer pre-preg carbon fibres would mean that the vehicle should be able to have a stronger chassis and not weigh any more. It would also be cheaper. The engine is an area of obvious improvement, the equivilent V12 in the Enzo is 32bhp more powerfull and 35kg lighter. And an engine based on two E46 M3 engines would probably work pretty well with similar weight and 700bhp. Aerodynamics probably need some sorting, the F1 always didn't have enough downforce at the rear. I think this would be an application for some adaptive aerodynamics that cut in only when the car is cornering. Adaptive damping would also go down well. The brakes could also be swapped out with ceramic ones for a decent weight saving. What would you refine for F1 V.2? |

Re: F1 V.2
well i read yesterday this i thing is important:
Ron Dennis (Wednesday 25th February 2004) McLaren Plans Baby F1 cLaren chairman Ron Dennis has dropped strong hints about a new supercar project, following hot in the tyre-tracks of the Mercedes McLaren SLR. The new car would be in the £100-£150,000 bracket and, according to Dennis, has been inspired by driving rival supercars during the development phase of the SLR. 'I was quite surprised that so many models in that bracket are not as good as they should be, so we know what we are dealing with', he told The Times last month. However, it was emphasised that McLaren is at the beginning of a long development process and that the exact make-up of the car is still being nailed-down. One of the major questions is whether the company could, or would want to, build it around a carbonfibre chassis. Even though manufacturing techniques have progressed massively since the F1's era, the expense might preclude it. http://www.evo.co.uk
