'90 Crx Steering Problems
I have a crx with steering problems. It's not power steering, but acts like it has it. It turns too easily, but the problem is that when you are driving it the steering wheel has a mind of its own. It constantly has alot of play in it and is very loose. If you hit a bump it is all you can do to control it. It has been aligned several times, new tires( same size as originals) and balanced. The front end has been looked at completley from tie rods, to bearings and everything else that could be the problem. If anyone has any suggestions or has run into the problem also let me know what to do next.

Hi Noob!! Welcome!
Check your tire pressure first, it might be too high, my car calls for 28psi, the lable for your car is in the glove box. Follow your manual, sticker, or tire tech. Second, bring your car to the dealer (drive slowly!) and have them check stuff. I'll bet your ball joints and tie rods are shot to hell too. Let us know what happens. GL

Where have you been taking it to get alligned? Sounds like theres something wrong thats making the car wander. Wait till Jackasssi reads this thread, im sure he'll have something to say. Hes our suspension guru

Everything on the car has been checked out. From the tie rods, ball joints, suspension, tires, etc. Nothing is worn out. Is there something you can do to the car as far rigging something up to make it steer like power steering. I've never heard of anything like that, but that is the only thing that I can come up with.

There is a steering effort adjustment on the rack, it's near the steering input shaft on the rack, and it may be out of adjustment. The dealer is the best place to go to have this adjusted. In the meantime check this link:
CRX steering The other possibilities are your rack is worn out, or inner tie rods are worn, or the rack rubber isolater bushings are worn, or the bolts holding the rack to the car are loose, or there's lots of rust on the subframe the rack attaches to, or the universal joints that connect the steering shaft to the rack are worn, I'm sure it's one of these and they are all bad news for car control, get things checked asap. another thing to check. check your radius rods. they connect the lower control arm to the front sub frame. they are what determines caster. and caster is what determines how easy it is to turn. the further back your wheels sit in the wheel well, the easier it is for them to wander. usually, the nuts on the subframe end of the radius rods come loose. try tightening them. its the biggest overlooked part of the suspension, especially by alignment monkeys who only look at toe.

I'll let the guys working on my car know the new things you listed to check on my car. I hope it finally gets things worked out. I won't know what he comes up until Moday. I'll let you know what the outcome is.
